What are plants suspended in air?

Plants suspended in air are plants that grow without touching the ground.

Imagine you're sitting on a swing at the park. You’re not touching the ground, you’re swinging up and down, floating in the air. That’s kind of what these plants do! They hang from something high up, like a tree branch or a building, and they don’t need to be planted in soil to grow.

Like a Swing Set for Plants

Some plants are like little swing sets, they have long, stretchy parts called stems, and at the end of those stems are their leaves. These plants hang from above, swaying gently with the wind, just like you on your swing.

You might see them in a park or even outside your house! They’re often called air plants because they live in the air, no soil, no ground, just floating and growing happily.

They get their food from the sunlight, just like other plants. But instead of being rooted in dirt, they're suspended, like you when you’re on a swing, free and fun!
