Why Do We Celebrate Pi Day?

Pi Day is a fun way to celebrate a special number that helps us understand circles, just like how we use a ruler to measure things every day.

Why do we care about circles?

Imagine you're eating a pizza. A circle is like a pizza, round and delicious! Pi helps us find out the distance around the edge of a circle, called the circumference, if we know its width through the middle, called the diameter. It's kind of like knowing how many slices your pizza has based on how big it is.

What makes pi special?

Pi is about 3.14, but it goes on forever with numbers that never repeat, just like a never-ending game of hide-and-seek! People love Pi Day because it’s a chance to explore shapes and math in a fun way, just like playing with blocks or counting steps.

So we celebrate Pi Day every year on March 15th (because 3/14 is like 3.14), it's a tasty and round way to remember the number that helps us measure circles!
