Imagine you have a bag of marbles. You count them one by one, 1, 2, 3... It seems like the numbers just keep getting bigger on their own! That’s how counting works: every time you add another thing to your group, you say a new number. So it feels like numbers multiply when you count because they get larger and larger as you go.
Examples
- When you count candies in a jar, it feels like they multiply as you go up to higher numbers.
- Counting steps on a staircase seems like the numbers keep growing and multiplying.
