Numbers can look different depending on where they come from. Like how some people write their names with squiggles, others use straight lines or curves, it’s the same for numbers! In ancient times, numbers were drawn like pictures to make counting easier, and now we have a special set of shapes just for each number.
Examples
- In ancient Egypt, people drew pictures of legs for numbers like 10 or 20, these were their number shapes.
- Some people still write numbers in old ways, like in Roman numerals (II = 2).
