Who is Latin America?

Latin America is like a big family of countries that all speak a language closely related to Latin, which was used by people from Italy, way back when.

Imagine you have a huge box full of different toys, but they're all made in the same toy factory. That's kind of what Latin America is: many countries, each with their own stories and styles, but they’re connected through the Latin language, which came from the old Roman Empire, just like Italian.

Where Is Latin America?

Think about a giant map that covers most of the Western Hemisphere. It starts in the south of Europe (that's where Italy is) and stretches all the way to the tip of South America. So, it includes countries from Mexico down through Brazil, like a long, wide hug around the Atlantic Ocean.

What Makes Them A Family?

Even though each country in Latin America has its own name, like Argentina, Chile, or Colombia, they all share something special: many of them speak languages that come from Latin, such as Spanish and Portuguese. That’s why it's called Latin America, because the language is a big part of what connects them, just like how your family shares the same last name!
