The source of the light is where the light comes from, just like your favorite flashlight is where the light comes from when you shine it in the dark.
Imagine you're playing with a toy car in your room at night. You turn on a lamp, and poof, the whole room lights up! That lamp is the source of the light, because it's what makes the light happen. Without it, you’d be playing in the dark, and that’s not as fun.
How Light Travels
When the lamp turns on, it sends out tiny bits of light called light waves, kind of like how your voice travels through the air when you shout across the room. These light waves go straight to your eyes, and wham, you can see everything again!
Sometimes the source of the light is not a lamp. The sun is also a source of light, but it’s much farther away. That’s why we need our lamps at night, they help us when the sun goes to sleep.
So next time you’re in a dark room, remember: someone or something is probably being the source of the light, and that makes everything visible!
