What is the history and significance of Buckingham Palace?

Buckingham Palace is like a big, fancy house where a very important person, the king or queen, lives and works.

Long ago, way back when your grandparents were kids, this palace was just a regular house for a noble family. But over time, it became super special, because it's where the king or queen of England spends most of their time. It’s like if your school had its own royal room and all the important people came to talk there.

Imagine you have a favorite toy that you bring everywhere, that's kind of what the palace is for the king or queen. They use it as their office, where they meet other leaders from around the world, like when your teacher has meetings with other teachers.

Also, every year on birthday time (called Trooping the Colour), people get to see the king or queen in a big parade, like a fancy show that everyone can watch!

The palace is also very old, almost 300 years old! That’s even older than your parents’ oldest friend.
