Why is it called BUCKINGHAM PALACE?

It’s called Buckingham Palace because it was built on a special piece of land named Buckingham, and that's where it stayed forever.

Imagine you have your favorite toy box, the one with all your most prized toys. You decide to build the best playroom ever right next to it, just so you can always go from your toy box to your playroom easily. That’s kind of what happened with Buckingham Palace.

The Land Named Buckingham

A long time ago, a man named John Stuart, who was very important, had a big house on this special land. People called it Buckingham because that was the name of his house. When he died, the land and house stayed in his family for many years.

The Palace Stays Forever

Later on, when Queen Victoria became queen, she decided to make Buckingham her home, not just for a little while, but forever. So they built a big, beautiful palace around it. Since then, every king and queen has lived there too. That’s why it's called Buckingham Palace, because the palace stayed on the land named Buckingham forever!
