What is the history and geography of Azerbaijan?

Azerbaijan is a country that sits at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, like a playground where kids from both sides come to play.

Azerbaijan has been around for thousands of years, with people living there even when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. It’s in the Caucasus region, which is a mountainous area between big countries like Russia and Turkey, it's like being on a hill that looks down at both neighbors.

Azerbaijan has two main parts: one is a flat land with lots of oil, kind of like a giant cookie full of chocolate chips (the oil). This part is called Azerbaijan Proper. The other part is Nakhchivan, which is a small piece of land surrounded by other countries, it's like having a toy box that’s only connected to the rest of your toys by a tiny string.

People in Azerbaijan speak Azerbaijani, a language that sounds a bit like Turkish mixed with Persian. The country has lots of cities, like Baku, which is the biggest city, it's like being the main character in a big storybook. And there are also villages, where people live close to nature and sometimes even keep sheep or cows.
