What is the history and geography of Pennsylvania?

Pennsylvania is like a big, cozy blanket that covers many different kinds of places, from forests to mountains to cities.

Pennsylvania got its name from King Charles II of England, who gave it to his friend, William Penn. William Penn was kind and wanted people to live together in peace, so he made sure the land had rules that were fair for everyone.

The Geography

Pennsylvania has many different kinds of land, like a puzzle with different pieces:

  • In the east, there are mountains, which are like giant piles of rocks you can climb.
  • In the middle, there are forests, where trees stand tall like soldiers in a green army.
  • In the west, there’s a big river called the Susquehanna River, which flows like water from a long, wiggly hose.

The History

A long time ago, people who looked like Indians lived in Pennsylvania. They were farmers and hunters, they grew corn and chased deer.

Later, Europeans came to live there too. Some of them brought horses, and the people who had lived there before learned how to ride them, kind of like learning a new game.

Pennsylvania became a special place where people could choose what religion they wanted to follow, it was like having a menu of beliefs!
