Starve means to not get enough food for a long time, and it can make you very weak or even sick.
Imagine you have a favorite snack, like cookies. If you never get to eat any cookies, and your tummy is grumbling because it's hungry, that’s kind of like being starved. But instead of just one snack missing, it’s all the food you need every day.
What Happens When You Starve
When someone doesn’t get enough food for a long time, their body has to work harder to keep going. It uses up its energy stores, like when you use up your battery in a toy. At first, you might feel tired and grumpy. Later on, you might feel weak or even sick because your body just can’t keep going without enough food.
It’s like if you had to run around all day but never got to rest or eat, eventually, you’d be really worn out!
Examples
- A person doesn’t eat for a week and starts feeling weak.
- Children who don’t get enough food grow slowly.
- Animals in the wild sometimes starve during harsh winters.
