What is salmon?

Salmon is a type of fish that lives in water and likes to swim from one place to another.

What Salmon Looks Like

Imagine you see a fish that looks like a shiny red or orange ribbon, that's a salmon! They have long, slim bodies and big, strong tails. When they're little, they look kind of gray, but when they grow up, they turn bright colors, just like how your shirt changes color in the washing machine.

What Salmon Do

Salmon are very active. They swim in rivers and oceans, and sometimes they travel hundreds of miles to go back to where they were born. It’s kind of like when you walk from school all the way home, but for a salmon, it's in water!

They also eat tiny creatures in the water, like little bugs or other small fish. And when they grow up, they become parents too, laying eggs in the river so new baby salmon can be born.

So next time you see salmon on your plate, remember: they're not just food, they’re clever swimmers with a big adventure!
