COVID-19 is caused by virus called SARS-CoV-2, which acts like a tiny invader that gets inside our bodies.
Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy, and suddenly, a sneaky little bug hides in it. That's what happens when the coronavirus enters your body, it sneaks in through your nose or mouth, just like how you might catch a cold from someone coughing near you.
How the virus looks
The virus is tiny, so small that you can’t see it with your eyes. But if you zoom in really close, it has a crown-like shape, which is where its name comes from: corona means “crown” in Latin. It’s covered in little spikes, like the arms of a superhero, helping it stick to our cells.
How the virus works
Once inside your body, the virus attaches itself to your cells, like a key fitting into a lock. Then it gets inside and starts copying itself, just like how you make copies of your homework. These new viruses come out and go on to infect more people, making them sick too.
It's like when you spread germs by sneezing, the virus is spreading through you!
