A refugee is someone who has to leave their home because it’s not safe anymore and goes somewhere else to live.
Imagine you're playing in your favorite park, but suddenly the ground shakes and a big wall falls down, that’s like what happens to a refugee. They have to run away from where they live because something bad is happening there, like war or a big fight between people. They don’t want to stay and get hurt, so they pack up their toys (or their clothes and food) and go to another place where it’s safer.
Like Moving Houses
Think of a refugee as someone who moves from one house to another, but instead of moving for school or a new job, they move because their old house is in danger. They might go to a neighbor's house, or even a different town or country. Just like you might bring your favorite blanket with you when you move, refugees also take what they can carry with them to make the new place feel more like home.
Sometimes, it takes a long time for them to find a safe place, just like how it might take you a few days to get used to a new room in your house.
