Preservation is like keeping your favorite snack from disappearing when you're not looking.
Imagine you have a big bag of cookies, and you want them to stay fresh for as long as possible. If you leave them out on the counter, they might get stale or even crumbly. But if you put them in a container and maybe stick them in the refrigerator, they'll last much longer.
That’s what preservation is, it's all about keeping things from changing or going bad. You can do this with food, like cookies or apples, but also with other stuff, like books, paintings, or even ice cream.
How It Works
Sometimes you use cold, like in a fridge, to slow things down. Other times you might dry something out, like when you leave wet clothes on the line. You could even add some salt to help keep things from getting spoiled, just like how fish are sometimes preserved that way!
Preservation is like giving your favorite things a superpower so they stay just as good as when you first got them.
Examples
- Storing apples in a cool, dark place to keep them from rotting.
- Putting food in the freezer so it lasts longer.
- Keeping old letters safe by putting them in a special box.
