What is Petrarch?

Petrarch was a man who loved writing poems and thinking about life, kind of like how you love drawing pictures or telling stories to your friends.

Petrarch lived a long time ago, in the 1300s. He’s famous for starting something called the Renaissance, which is like when people began to explore new ideas again after a long time of not doing that, it's like going from playing with blocks to building whole cities!

Petrarch wrote poems about love, especially one named Laura, who was very special to him. He used a style called lyric poetry, which is when you write short, emotional poems, kind of like writing notes in a friendship book.

He also loved going on walks in the mountains, thinking about life and what it means to be happy or sad, just like how you might think about your day after school while walking home.
