The Renaissance changed how we think about art by making it more personal and real.
Before the Renaissance, people mostly painted or sculpted religious scenes in a very strict way, like following a recipe that had been used for hundreds of years. But during the Renaissance, artists started to draw from life, using things they could see and touch every day.
Like Drawing from Life
Imagine you're drawing your favorite toy, you can see all its colors and shapes clearly. That's what Renaissance artists did! They studied how light hits a face or how shadows work on an object, just like you might study how your toy looks in different rooms of the house.
Art Becomes More Like Us
Renaissance art also started to show more people, not just saints or gods, but regular folks with emotions and expressions. It was like moving from a picture of a perfect angel to a portrait of your friend, who might be smiling, frowning, or even yawning!
This change made art feel closer to life and to the people who looked at it, and that’s how we still think about art today!
