What is Original 13 states?

The Original 13 states are like the first group of friends who started a club together, they were the first ones to say “we’re in this together!”

Long ago, before there was one big country called the United States, there were 13 smaller areas, kind of like neighborhoods. These neighborhoods wanted more freedom and control over their own lives, so they decided to leave the bigger group that had been ruling them, a bit like leaving a school to start your own club.

These Original 13 states are: Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, and Rhode Island. They were the first ones to join together in something called the Declaration of Independence, which is like a big, official letter saying “we’re not going to be ruled by someone else anymore!”

It’s kind of like when you and your friends decide to form a new team, you all agree on the rules and what you want to do together. The Original 13 states did that for their country!
