What is One Second ?

One second is like the time it takes to blink your eye or count from one to two really fast.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy, maybe a car or a ball. When you tap your foot once, that’s about one second! It's also how long it takes for the clock on the wall to move from one number to the next when it's counting out loud.

Big machines called clocks and watches help us know exactly when a second starts and ends. Inside them, there are tiny parts that go tick and tock, like a little drummer who never stops playing. Each tick is one second, just like the beat of a song.

You can even use your own heartbeat to guess how many seconds have passed. If you count one heartbeat as one second, then counting up to ten means about ten seconds have gone by!
