What is mouth?

A mouth is like a special opening that lets you eat, talk, and even make funny faces!

How it works

Your mouth is at the front of your face, right where your nose ends and your lips begin. It's kind of like a tunnel, when you open it wide, you can bring food in to chew. Think about eating an apple: you put it in your mouth, then use your teeth to bite into it, and your tongue helps move it around.

Why we need it

Your mouth is also how you talk! When you say words like “hello” or “ice cream,” you’re using your mouth, especially your lips, tongue, and teeth, to make sounds. It’s like a little speaker that you can control with your face!

When you smile or frown, your mouth helps show what you're feeling. So, the next time you eat something tasty or say your favorite word, remember: your mouth is working hard for you!
