What is darkness?

Darkness is when light goes to sleep and we can’t see anything around us.

Imagine you’re playing with your favorite toy in the living room, and all of a sudden, someone flips off the lights. Poof! It’s like the room got covered in a soft, invisible blanket, that's darkness.

What Darkness Feels Like

When it's dark, it’s like being inside a cozy blanket fort, you can’t see what’s around you, but you can still feel things and hear them. You might tap your brother on the shoulder, and he’ll say “Who’s there?”, even though he can’t see you.

What Darkness Needs to Happen

Darkness happens when light stops coming from where it usually comes, like a lamp or the sun. If there's no light, our eyes can't work as hard, so everything looks quiet and calm, just like when you go to bed after a long day of playing.

Sometimes, we make darkness on purpose, like when we turn off the lights before going to sleep. Other times, it happens naturally, like at night, when the sun goes away.
