What is dark?

Dark is when there’s no light to see anything, just like when you close your eyes and can’t see your fingers in front of your face.

What makes something dark?

Imagine it's nighttime, and you're in a room with the lights off. That’s dark because there’s no light coming from anywhere. You can't see the toy on the floor or your brother hiding behind the couch. It's like being in a big blanket that covers everything, no light, no seeing.

How do we get dark?

During the day, the sun is shining, and you can see everything clearly. But when the sun goes down, it’s dark outside, just like when you turn off your lamp at night. Sometimes, clouds block the sun, and that makes things a little darker, like wearing sunglasses on a sunny day.

If there's no light, you can't tell what things look like. But if you have a flashlight or a nightlight, it helps you see again, just like having a friend who shines a light for you in the dark! Dark is when there’s no light to see anything, just like when you close your eyes and can’t see your fingers in front of your face.
