What is convex?

A convex shape is like a cookie that has no dents, it’s all smooth and rounded on the outside.

Imagine you have two cookies: one is flat and round, like a pancake, and the other has little bumps and dents, like a bumpy road. The flat, round cookie is convex because if you push your finger into it from anywhere, it will bend outward, just like when you press on a balloon.

Now think about drawing lines between any two points on the cookie’s surface. If you draw a line between them and it never goes outside the cookie, then that cookie (or shape) is convex. It's like having a toy car that can drive across the top of the cookie, no matter where it starts or ends, it won’t fall off the edge.

If the cookie had dents, some lines would go through those dents and outside the cookie, making it not convex.

So, convex means "no dents", all smooth and outward-bending. Just like a happy, round cookie! A convex shape is like a cookie that has no dents, it’s all smooth and rounded on the outside.
