What is confidentiality?

Confidentiality is when secrets stay secret and only certain people know them.

Imagine you have a special toy box that only you and your best friend can open. No one else gets to see what's inside, not even your brother or your teacher. That’s like confidentiality: it means some information is kept safe, and only the right people are allowed to know it.

Think of confidentiality as a secret message that only certain people can read. If you write a note to your best friend about what you want for your birthday, and you put it in a special envelope that only the two of you can open, that’s confidentiality! No one else gets to peek inside.

Or imagine a door that’s locked with a key. Only people who have the key can go in. If the door is for your room, and only you and your brother have keys, then you both know what's inside, but no one else does. That’s also confidentiality.

When something is confidential, it means it’s like a special secret that only some people can see or know about, just like your toy box or your secret message!
