A secret stays hidden for a long time when it’s kept safe by people who don’t want others to know it.
Imagine you and your friend have a special toy that only the two of you can play with, like a treasure map. You both promise not to tell anyone else where the treasure is. That’s like keeping a secret. But if someone asks you, “Where is the treasure?” and you say, “I don’t know,” then the secret stays safe.
Now imagine your friend tells another kid about the treasure, that kid might go look for it and find it! So the secret isn’t as strong anymore. The more people who know the secret, the easier it is for someone to figure it out or tell others.
Sometimes, secrets are like a game of “hot potato.” If you pass the potato around quietly, no one gets burned, but if someone drops it, everyone knows what happened!
That’s how secrets stay hidden: by keeping them small and passing them carefully from person to person.
