A shadow is like when something blocks the light from reaching a place. Imagine you're standing in a sunny room, and there's a big ball between you and the wall, your shadow appears on the wall because the ball stops the light from hitting that spot. Light travels straight, so if something gets in the way, it creates a shadow behind it. Shadows can be small or big, depending on how close the object is to the light source. The bigger the object and the closer it is to the light, the darker and bigger the shadow becomes.
Examples
