What are vector terms?

A vector term is like giving directions to your friend when you're playing hide and seek, it tells them how far to go and which way to turn.

Imagine you’re standing in the middle of a big playground. If someone says, “Go 5 steps forward,” that’s simple, they just tell you how many steps to take. But if they say, “Go 5 steps forward and then 3 steps to the right,” that gives more information: it tells you both the distance and the direction.

In math and science, a vector term is like that second instruction, it has two parts: one for how much (like the number of steps), and one for where to go (like forward or to the right).

Why vector terms matter

If you're drawing on paper, or moving things around in a game, using vector terms helps everyone know exactly where something is going, just like knowing both the distance and direction helps your friend find the perfect hiding spot.
