What are stellar systems?

A stellar system is like a family of stars living together in space, just like you and your siblings live together at home.

Imagine you have a favorite toy box, it's full of different toys that all belong to you. A stellar system is kind of like that toy box, but instead of toys, it has stars, and sometimes even planets or moons.

Like a Star Family

In the middle of most stellar systems, there’s a big, bright star, like the Sun in our own stellar system, which is called the solar system. This big star is like the parent who keeps everything together with its gravity. Around it, other stars or planets can orbit, just like how your siblings might play around you in the living room.

Sometimes a stellar system has two or more stars, they’re like siblings who all share the same toy box and play together every day.

So when we look at the night sky, we're seeing different stellar systems, each one a little family of stars having their own special space party.
