What are celestial bodies?

Celestial bodies are big things that float in space, just like toys floating in a pool.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy boat in a big bathtub. The water is like space, and the boat is like a celestial body, it's moving around because of the way the water pushes it. Now think about all the other toys you might put in the bath: a rubber duck, a floating ship, maybe even a toy astronaut. Each one is a different kind of toy, just like how there are many kinds of celestial bodies.

Types of Celestial Bodies

  • The Sun is like the biggest, brightest lightbulb in the bathtub, it's a star.
  • Earth is like your favorite boat that you ride around, it's a planet.
  • The Moon is like a little rubber duck that follows your boat, it's a moon.

These big things are all floating together in space, just like your toys float together in the bathtub. Some move fast, some move slow, and they all have their own special place in the big, empty bath of space.
