Silkworms are tiny creatures that make super soft threads to create beautiful clothes and soft blankets.
Imagine you have a little friend who loves to spin, like when you twist yarn around your finger to make a ball. That’s what silkworms do, but they use their own special kind of thread!
How Silkworms Make Thread
Silkworms start as tiny eggs, and when they hatch, they become little worms that eat a lot, mostly leaves from a special tree called a mulberry tree. They grow bigger and bigger until one day, they stop eating and start spinning.
They spin their thread around themselves like a blanket, making a cocoon. This cocoon is made of just one long thread, imagine twisting a string into a ball so tight that it becomes a round house!
What Happens Next
After some time, the silkworm changes into a butterfly, and the cocoon is left behind. People then take the cocoon and use special tools to pull out the long thread, which is used to make silk fabric!
