Bees use special tools to find their way back home, just like you use your sense of direction to get from school to your house.
How Bees Use a Map in the Sky
Bees have something like a map in the sky, and it's made by the sun. When they fly away from their hive, they look at where the sun is in the sky. If the sun is high up, that means it’s noon, kind of like when your shadow is shortest on the playground.
When bees come back home, they use this map, and they also use something like a clock inside them to know how much time has passed while they were flying. That helps them figure out where their hive is even if it's far away.
Bees Use Landmarks Too
Sometimes, bees also use landmarks, just like you might look for your favorite tree or a big building to find your way home. A hill, a lake, or even a tall tree can be a helpful clue on the journey back.
So, even though it looks like bees are flying randomly, they're actually using smart tricks, like a sky map and an internal clock, to get back where they started! 🐝✨
