What are numbers?

Numbers are tools we use to count and compare things around us.

Imagine you have a basket full of apples. If you want to know how many apples are in it, you can use numbers. The number 1 means one apple, the number 2 means two apples, and so on, like counting your toes or fingers!

How Numbers Work

Think of numbers as labels for groups. When you have three blocks stacked up, you're looking at the label 3, which means three blocks. It’s just like when you line up your toys, each toy gets a spot in the line, and that helps you know how many there are.

Numbers Can Be Friends

Numbers can also help you compare things. If you have 4 cookies and your friend has 2, you can see that you have more. It’s like having more marbles in your pocket than your friend, numbers let you know who has the bigger pile!

Numbers aren’t just for counting; they’re a way to understand how much, how many, or how big something is, all using simple labels we made up to help us with everyday things!
