What are migratory birds?

Migratory birds are birds that travel from one place to another when the seasons change.

Imagine you have a favorite toy that you play with in the summer, but when it gets cold, you put it away and bring out your warm blanket. Migratory birds do something similar, they leave their home when it gets too cold or too hot and go somewhere more comfortable.

Some migratory birds fly to places where there is more food or warmer weather. For example, a bird that lives in the north might fly all the way to the south for the winter so it can find worms and seeds to eat without freezing.

Some of these birds travel very far, like from Canada to Brazil! It’s like walking from one end of your school to the other, but instead of walking, they fly. And some even stop along the way to rest and eat, just like you might take a snack break during a long walk.
