What are management styles?

Management styles are how leaders help people work together in a fun and friendly way.

Imagine you're playing with your friends at recess, and someone is in charge of making sure everyone has a good time. That person is like a manager, and the way they do it is their management style.

Like a Playground Leader

Some managers are like the friend who shouts out loud: "Let’s play tag!" They want everything to be fast and exciting, that's a direct management style, like being the boss of a game.

Other managers are more like the friend who says, "What do you all want to play?" They let everyone share ideas, that's a collaborative management style, like working together on a group project.

Like a Chef in a Kitchen

Think about a kitchen where some chefs tell everyone exactly what to do, and others just say, "Make something good!" The first chef is using a directive management style, while the second one is using a flexible management style, like choosing your own toppings on pizza.

Each way of managing helps people work better together, just like different games help you have more fun at recess!
