What are lies?

A lie is when someone says something that isn’t true to trick you or make you believe something wrong.

Imagine you have a favorite toy, maybe it's a red ball. Your friend comes and says, “Look, I found a blue ball!” But they’re holding your red ball. That’s a lie, because your friend is trying to make you think they found a different ball when they actually have yours.

Why People Lie

Sometimes people lie to be funny or to play a game. Like when you tell your brother, “I ate all the cookies,” but you didn’t, you just hid them under your bed! That’s a lie too, and it can make your brother laugh or get mad.

What Lies Can Do

Lies can be silly or sneaky. If someone lies about something important, like saying they finished their homework when they didn’t, that might cause trouble later, like getting in trouble at school!

But sometimes, lies are just part of the fun, and that’s okay too!
