What is deception?

Deception is when someone hides the truth to trick another person into thinking something that’s not real.

Imagine you're playing hide and seek with your friend. You want to win, so instead of hiding behind the couch like you said you would, you sneak behind the fridge. Your friend thinks you’re behind the couch, but really, you’re somewhere else, and that's deception!

Like a Sneaky Game

When you pretend to be somewhere else, you're using tricks to make your friend believe something false. That’s just like when someone tells a lie or hides something from you.

A Real-Life Example

Think about when your mom says she’ll let you have dessert after dinner, but really, she wants you to eat all your veggies first. She's using deception by making it seem like dessert is waiting for later, even though it’s actually a reward for finishing your food.

Deception is everywhere! It can be sneaky, funny, or even silly, just like when you trick someone in a game.
