What are habits?

A habit is something you do again and again without really thinking about it.

Imagine you have a toy that you love, maybe a teddy bear or a spinning top. Every night before bed, you always pick up your toy and say goodnight to it. That’s like having a habit! You don’t even need to remember to do it; it just happens because you’ve done it so many times.

How habits work

Think of your brain like a robot. When you first start doing something, the robot has to think about every step, like putting on your socks and shoes in order. But once you’ve done it enough times, the robot learns to do it automatically, just like how you can tie your shoelaces without looking.

Why habits are cool

Habits help you save energy for things that matter more, like playing with your favorite toy or eating your favorite snack. They’re like little helpers inside your brain who know exactly what to do when it’s time for bed, breakfast, or even your favorite game.
