Energy inefficiencies are when you use more energy than you really need to do a job.
Imagine you're trying to light up your room, but instead of turning on just one light, you turn on all five lights in the room. That’s using extra energy for no real reason, it's like giving your room a super bright party when it only needs a little glow. This is an example of energy inefficiency.
What It Feels Like
Think about when you're playing with your toys and leave the TV on even though you’re not watching it anymore. That’s energy being used without purpose, like giving your toy a long, boring nap while you're having fun somewhere else.
Why It Matters
When we use more energy than needed, we have to get more from places like the power company or the sun. That means we’re using up resources faster and might need to work harder to keep things running, just like when you eat too much candy and then have to do extra chores later!
Examples
- A car engine losing heat through the exhaust pipe
- A kettle that takes longer to boil because of a poor lid
