What are dinosaurs?

Dinosaurs were big animals that lived a long, long time ago, way before your parents or grandparents were born.

What Did They Look Like?

Imagine a giant lizard, but not the kind you see in the park. Some dinosaurs were as small as a chicken, and others were as big as a school bus! One of them, called Tyrannosaurus rex, had really strong teeth and could bite through bones like they were candy.

How Did They Move?

Some dinosaurs walked on two legs, just like you, like the T. rex or Velociraptor. Others, like the Triceratops, had three horns on their heads and walked on four legs, kind of like a big tank. Some even had feathers! You can think of them like birds with scales instead of feathers.

What Happened to Them?

One day, very, very long ago, something happened that made all the dinosaurs disappear. Scientists still study why it happened, but it’s like when you drop your favorite toy and it breaks into pieces, not all of them survived.
