The American colonies were like little neighborhoods far away that grew bigger and stronger over time.
Imagine you have a big family that moves into a new house. At first, there are just a few people in the house, maybe your parents and siblings. But as more relatives come to live with you, the house gets busier and more interesting. That’s kind of what happened with the American colonies.
Like a Growing Family
At first, only a few groups of people from England came to live in North America. They were like the first cousins who moved in. These early settlers started building homes, farming land, and making new friends, all in places that would become New England, the Middle Colonies, and the Southern Colonies.
Over time, more families came from England, bringing their own ways of living and working. The neighborhoods grew into towns, and the towns became cities, just like your family’s house growing into a big, busy home with lots of cousins playing in the backyard!
