What are activities or gatherings?

An activity is something you do, and a gathering is when people meet up to share that doing together. Think of your living room as a stage. When you build a pillow fort, you are practicing an activity. When your friends climb inside it with snacks, everyone becomes part of a gathering.

The "Do" Part

An activity is like putting on your shoes. It has steps. You tie the laces, step in, and walk out. Activities can be solo or group, but they always involve action. Playing tag, baking cookies, or drawing a picture are all activities because you are actively using your hands and brain to make something happen.

The "People" Part

A gathering is like a bucket of popcorn. One kernel isn’t much, but together they fill the bowl. A gathering happens when two or more people come together in the same place at the same time. It doesn’t matter if you are speaking; you can just sit and watch a movie with your dog and that still counts as a small gathering because you are sharing space.

Combining Them

When you go to a birthday party, you have both. The birthday cake is the object, eating it is the activity, and all your cousins in the yard form the gathering. Without people, you might just eat a snack alone. Without an activity, you might just stand in a crowd looking at phones. But when you dance with others while eating that cake, you have created a special moment where doing and meeting join forces.
