The Old Way
Imagine trying to put a key in a lock. If you hold it upside down, it does not fit. You have to flip it and try again. Old USB cables were like that old key. They had a flat shape with one side up and one side down. If you tried to plug them in backwards, the metal part would hit the wall inside the port.
The New Way
The new USB-C cable is different. It looks exactly the same on both sides. You can drop it in either way up or down, and it still works! This saves time because you do not have to look closely every single time.
Why It Took So Long
Examples
- My kid drops the cable in backwards, but it still charges perfectly.
- I pull the cable out and see that both sides look identical.
