I went from being someone who makes pretty pictures to someone who helps whole teams make amazing stories come alive.
Graphic designer is like being the person who picks out your favorite colors and shapes for a drawing, you make each picture look special. You're the one choosing what goes on the poster, the logo, or even the cover of a book.
Art director is more like being the leader of a group of artists, you help decide what should be drawn and how it should all fit together to tell a story. It's like being the captain of a team that creates the whole world for a movie or game.
From Making Pretty Pictures to Leading the Team
At first, I was just making pretty pictures, like when you color inside the lines. But as I got better, I started thinking about how all those pictures could work together. It's like going from drawing one picture on your own to helping a whole class make a mural that looks amazing from end to end.
Now, I get to pick which artists will help me tell the story and what kind of magic (or cool ideas) we'll use, but not real magic, just clever thinking!
