Creating easy long shadows in Adobe Illustrator is like giving your drawing a superpower, it makes things look like they're standing up under a bright light.
Imagine you’re playing with blocks on the floor, and there’s a lamp shining from one side. The blocks cast long shadows on the wall. That's what we're doing here, making shapes look like they have shadows behind them, just like your blocks!
How It Works
First, you draw something, maybe a cat or a car. Then, you copy that shape and move it slightly to one side. This copied shape is your shadow.
Next, you color the shadow with a darker version of the same color. That’s how you make it look like light is hitting your original shape from one side.
Finally, you can blur the edge of the shadow just a little bit, that makes it look softer and more real, just like when you draw a cloud or a foggy day with soft edges.
It's like giving your drawing a little extra light and depth, no magic needed, just some clever copying and coloring!
