How Does Understanding Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Work?

Virtual reality and augmented reality are like stepping into or adding to your favorite toy box, but with special glasses that make things come alive.

Virtual reality is when you put on a pair of magical-looking goggles, and suddenly you're not in your room anymore. You're inside a virtual world, like a giant video game where everything around you moves and changes as if it's real. It’s like being in a pretend castle or flying with dragons, but instead of just imagining it, you’re actually there.

Augmented reality is different. Instead of taking you away from the real world, it adds to it. Imagine wearing those same goggles, but now they show extra stuff on top of what’s already around you. Like if your room had invisible monsters hiding under the bed or a giant robot standing in front of your TV, and you could see them because of the augmented reality glasses.

Both use special technology to trick your eyes and brain into thinking things are real, but one takes you away from the world, and the other makes it bigger and more fun.
