How Does Picture Graphs Work?

A picture graph is like a colorful story made out of pictures that shows you how many things there are.

Imagine you have a basket full of apples and oranges. If you want to show how many apples and oranges you have, instead of counting them one by one, you can use little drawings, maybe 🍎 for apples and 🍊 for oranges. Each picture stands for one fruit. So if there are 5 apples, you draw 5 🍎s, and if there are 3 oranges, you draw 3 🍊s.

Why It's Fun

Using picture graphs feels like playing a game! You can make your graph as big or as small as you want. If you're showing how many toys you have in your room, you might use 🧸 for stuffed animals and 🎮 for video games. The more pictures you draw, the more things there are!

What It Shows You

A picture graph helps you see at a glance who has more or less of something. If your friend drew 7 🍎s and you only drew 4, then they have more apples than you do, and that might mean it's time for a snack!
