Geothermal energy is like having a hot water bottle inside the Earth that never stops warming you up.
Imagine you're sitting on a couch, and under it there's a big hot water bottle, that’s what the Earth feels like when we use geothermal energy. Deep underground, the Earth gets super hot because of all the heat from its core, just like how your hot water bottle warms up your feet.
How It Works
When we want to use this hot energy, we drill holes into the ground, kind of like poking a straw into a warm drink. Then, hot water or steam comes rushing up through those holes. We can use that heat to make electricity, just like how a kettle boils water when it’s plugged in.
Sometimes, we even let the hot water come back down after we’ve used it, it's like giving your hot water bottle a quick rest before using it again. This is called renewable energy because the Earth keeps heating up, and we can keep taking that heat forever.
Examples
- You can heat your house using hot water from underground without burning fuel.
