"Don't put people in boxes" means we shouldn't think everyone is exactly the same just because they seem similar at first.
Imagine you have a toy box full of different toys, cars, blocks, dolls, and balls. If you only see one kind of toy, like all cars, you might think that's all there is. But if you look closer, you’ll find other toys hiding inside too! People are like that toy box, they have many sides, and we shouldn’t assume what’s inside just because of one thing we notice.
Why It Matters
When we put people in boxes, we might not see all their cool parts. Like if someone is quiet at first, we might think they don't want to play with us. But maybe they're just thinking about how to build the best block tower ever!
Let's Try It Out
Next time you meet someone new, try to be curious instead of assuming. Ask them what they like or what makes them laugh. You might find out they’re a super fun person hiding inside, just waiting for you to open the box!
Examples
- A child is told not to judge a friend just because they like different toys
- Someone avoids labeling their coworker as 'lazy' and instead tries to understand why they're late
- A parent listens to their teenager's thoughts instead of assuming they're being defiant
