How Does a Medieval Siege Work?

A medieval siege is like a big game of hide and seek where one group tries to take over a castle by surrounding it and wearing down its defenders.

Imagine your favorite toy is inside a strong box, and you're trying to get it out. The box is the castle, and the people guarding it are the defenders. To win, you need to make sure they can't leave the box, that’s like being on siege.

How the Siege Works

The group trying to take over, called siegers, builds a big wall around the castle so no one can come in or go out. This is like putting up a curtain around your toy box.

They might also throw big rocks at the walls using trebuchets, which are like giant slingshots. It’s like throwing your biggest ball at the box to see if it will break open.

Inside the castle, the defenders run out of food and get tired because they can't go outside to find more supplies, it's like being stuck in a room with only one snack and no way to get another.

After a while, the defenders give up or get too weak, and the siegers win the game, just like you would if your toy box finally opened!
