How Does a Medieval Castle Defend Against an Army?

A medieval castle is like a super strong house that can keep out a whole group of people trying to come inside.

Imagine your toy box is super full and you want to protect it from your brother who wants all the toys. You build walls around it, put a gate in front, and maybe even hide some toys behind a curtain so he doesn’t see them right away.

Like a Big Toy Box with Walls

A castle wall is like a really high fence, it’s hard to climb over or break through. The gate is like the door to your toy box, if it's locked, people can't just walk in. Sometimes there are drawbridges, which are like a plank that goes from the castle to the ground, when it’s up, you have to jump or climb to get in.

Secret Hiding Places

Inside the castle, there might be hidden rooms or tunnels, like secret passages under your bed. These let people move around without being seen, so they can surprise the army trying to take over.

Sometimes, soldiers on top of the walls throw things down, like rocks or hot coals, just like you might throw a pillow at your brother to keep him from getting into your toy box!
